Joint submission in response to the Productivity Commission's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts and Crafts Draft Report

We support more effective recognition and protection of ICIP in Australia, including legal and nonlegal mechanisms.

A joint submission by us and the Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition (ALACC) in response to the Productivity Commission’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts and Craft Draft Report. Protecting Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) is an important issue that impacts upon our members. In the submission we encourage the Productivity Commission to pursue a First Nations-led framework that accommodates both legal and nonlegal mechanisms for protection. Nonlegal options include protocols, Indigenous data sovereignty principes and industry practices.
